Remix : A Revolution in Text Forms
I got a copy of this textbook today and it is a beautiful thing to behold. If I’d had a textbook like this in high school, I probably would have gone to class a lot more. (And consequently, I’d be much less good at shooting pool…a trade-off for sure…) Remix is a compilation of stories playing with form: graphic rants, Twitter/Facebook/blogging fiction, a story told through video game code, and ten-word microfiction stories like these. Remix is full of innovative storytelling that’s meant to grab a teenager’s attention (and to prevent the creation of future pool-sharks…)
My story that’s included is about bullying and, after reading it, teens will have to answer tough questions like: Note the author’s use of italics. Why do you think she used italics, and what effect does this have on the story?Wow! Even I had to think about that one!
